My Technology Story

  • Tandy 1000

    Tandy 1000
My grandmother helped my mom and dad buy a Tandy computer because she thought all of her grandchildren could benefit from it's educational value. Dad made payments, and all of the grandkids would gather at our house to type reports, or do other types of homework. It was the greatest this to ever hit my home! We loved every floppy disk game we could play on MS DOS.

  • Gameboy

My mind was blown by the technology of this handheld game system. I was ten when it was released and knew there was no way I'd ever have one. In 1992, I entered a Math-A-Thon at school and happened to win. The prize......a brand new Gameboy!
  • Motorolla Bag Phone

I thought my mom was the coolest person ever when she got the moto bag phone. She was travelling long distances due to work at the time, so my dad reluctantly let her get a cell phone. It was ridiculously expensive to talk during the day, but after 9 pm it was a free for all!
  • Windows 95 and dial-up internet

    Windows 95 and dial-up internet
At the time, this was the greatest invention ever. The ease of using Windows after years of deskhelp on MS DOS was unbelievable! Not to mention now we got to have access to the internet in our own home. This made the educational experience a totally different ballgame. No more dragging out three volumes of the World Book to research one topic. Now it was all at my fingertips. Slowly, but surely!

  • Hannan Recieves Classes Through Satellite

There were few foreign languages offered at my high school, so when we received grants from partners in education and were offered classes like German, Russian, and French through satellite, it was a huge thing for the students at our school.
  • The Camera Phone

    The Camera Phone
Suddenly, the world was documenting everything they did with the new camera capable cell phone. This type of phone and the introduction of the SMS message was life-changing. It changed the face of communication completely.
