    The Battle of the Coral Sea
    The Battle of the Coral Sea was a four day battle that took place at New Guinea. Was the first air-sea battle in history. Americans hit the Japanese Shoho carrier sinking it. Japanese sank the carrier Lexington. The Japanese were forced to turn back leaving the Americans with the win.

    One of the most important naval battles of WW2. The Japanese navy planned to ambush the American navy but the Americans new the ambush was coming and planned for it. Americans won the battle and did permanent damage to the Japanese navy.

    D-Day was a pretty big turning point for WW2. During this battle Allies planned to invade Normandy and to destroy German communication and transportation networks. Allie forces eventually got victory but at the cost of great causalities.

    Allies liberated Paris. Hitler ordered his generals to destroy the french capital , but they disobeyed him.

    Hitler ordered a counterattack known as the Battle of the Bulge. Germans surprised the allies and overtook several cities. Allied bombers took flight and attacked the German positions. Reinforcements arrived pushing the Germans out of France.

    American forces used an island-hoping strategy. Making a steady path toward Japan. They took Saipan, Tinian , and Guam in the Mariana Islands. General Douglas MacArthur would retake the Philippines, and the U.S Navy sank Japanese ships.

    23,000 Japanese troops tried to defend the island of Iwo Jima. American marines wiped out the remaining troops taking the island of Iwo Jima. Americans needed Iwo Jima for a base.

    The Manhattan project was completed. President Truman had a difficult decision to make, the decision was he could dropped the bomb or not. At the end of the day he didn't know how close the Axis' nuclear scientists were to making an atomic bomb , so he decided to dropped it to end the war and save American lives
