    The Rape of Nanking took place after the Japanese took control. Japanese soldiers massacred and raped the residents of Nanking. The massacre lasted over a course of six weeks.

    Japan attacked our millitary installation in Hawaii. The attack was the biggest terrorist attack until 9/11. This attack brought us into the war. We declared war on Japan, soon after Germany and Italy declared war on us.

    Conference between high ranking Nazi officials which ended with the creation of the final solution. The final solution was a policy to exterminate the Jewish race as quickly as possible. Sadly this policy was carried out with great effectiveness.

    This was Germanys last chance to hit Russia where it hurts. Hitler pourd everything he had into this assault. The dwindling Russian soldiers held their ground and ultimately the German troops surrendered to Russia.

    D-Day (Normandy Invasion)
    This was the joint opperation of the western allies to take back Europe by way of Normandy. The allies created a fake army unit elsewhere to get Germany to set up defenses their instead of Normandy's coast. This plan worked. Although we suffered many casualties we came out victorious.

    Battle of the Bulge
    This was Hitlers last stand to frive a wedge in Allied forces. He set up his Ardennes offensive. He unleashed the greatest bombardment in the wars history and beseiged the Allied troops. This Battle cost Hitler 88,000 men and the Americans 77,000. This defeat for Hitler sealed his coffin and began the end of the war.

  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    US Marine divisions invaded Iwo Jima due to the need of a US fighter base for Japanese air raids. They also needed a repairs and relief base for B-29's. 4000 US soldiers died. 21000 Japanese solders died. We were sucssesful in taking the island.

  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    US Army and Marine divisions invade the japanese city of Okinawa. Kamikaze attacks killed 5000 Americans. 11000 Japanese surrendered and 110000 were killed. This was the largest naval operation in the Pacific Theatre. The Japanese had the most powerful battleship in history, "The Yamato". This battleship was useless in a fight that revolved around aircraft carriers. It was sunk by US carrier-based aircraft.

    Victory Day in Europe. This was the last day of the Third Reich. Hitler officialy surrenderes and the war is over. This holiday is still celebrated today.

    Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
    The U.S. was locked in a war with Japan that seemed it wouldnt end. America gave Japan multiple chances to surrender but they wouldnt give in. This led us to dropping the nuclear bombs. Letters were dropped over Hiroshima before the bombing to allow locals to escape. We then dropped the bomb. Japan still efused to surrender so we dropped another on Nagasaki.   • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    Victory of Japan Day. japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu signed official defeat against America. The treaty was signed on the U.S.S. Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan. This was the end of the Pacific front of WWII
