    John Stuart Mill - Born
    First born son to Harriet Burrow and Scottish Philosopher, James Mill in Pentonville, Middlesex, London, UK. He is considered to have profoundly influenced the shape of 19th Century thoughts and politics.
  • Nervous Breakdown

    In the winter of 1826, John Stewart Mill slipped into a depression regarding his education and current philosophies. This was a turning point for him when he changed his opinions from total Utilitarianism to a more open ideal of internal culture of the individual. Per his autobiography, Mill stated "I now began to find meaning in the things, which I had read or heard about the importance of poetry and art as instruments of human culture."     Erysipelas is an infection of the upper layers of skin usually caused by Group A Streptococcus bacterium, which also causes Strep throat. He most likely would have survived had antibiotics been available at the time.
