  • Abraham Lincoln is Elected President

    Abraham Lincoln is elected president, beating: Stephen A. Douglas (Northern Democrat), John C. Breckinridge (Southern Democrats), and John Bell (Constitutional Party). Lincoln received over 40% of the popular vote and handily defeated the opposing three candidates. Lincoln would become the 16th president of the United States.
  • Lincoln is Assassinated

    Lincoln is assassinated while watching a play in Ford's theater in Washington D.C. Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in a desperate attempt to save the confederacy
  • Andrew Johnson Takes Reign

    After Lincoln is assassinated, Andrew Johnson (Lincoln's Vice President) is sworn into office and becomes the new president of the United States. Johnson becomes the 17th president of the United States.
  • James Garfield is Elected

    James Garfield is elected president, beating Scott Hancock (Democrat). Garfield would beat Hancock in the popular vote by .11 percent. However, he would win majorly by an electoral college vote of 214-155. Garfield would become the 20th president of the United States.
  • Garfield is Assassinated

    Garfield is shot in a train station in Washington D.C. He was killed by Charles Guiteau. Guiteau claimed that he was "fulfilling a mission from god" by killing Garfield. Garfield survived for 80 days, but ultimately died due to an infection.
  • Chester Arthur Takes Reign

    After Garfield is assassinated, Chester Arthur (Garfield's Vice President) is sworn into office and becomes the new president of the United States. Arthur becomes the 21st president of the United States.
  • William McKinley is Elected President

    William McKinley is elected president, beating William Jennings Bryan (Democrat). McKinley would win just over 51 percent of the popular vote. McKinley would win the Electoral College by a vote of 271-176. McKinley would become the 25th president of the United States.
  • McKinley is Assassinated

    McKinley is assassinated at a Pan-American exhibit in Buffalo, NY. He was killed by Leon Czolgosz. Czolgosz claimed that McKinley was "the enemy of the good people--the working people."
  • Theodore Roosevelt Takes Reign

    After McKinley is assassinated, Theodore Roosevelt (McKinley's Vice President) is sworn into office and becomes the new president of the United States. T. Roosevelt becomes the 26th president of the United States.
  • John F. Kennedy is Elected President

    John F. Kennedy is elected president, beating Richard Nixon (Republican). Kennedy would beat Nixon in the popular vote by .2 percent. However, Kennedy would win the Electoral College by a vote of 303-219. Kennedy would become the 35th president of the United States.
  • Kennedy is Assassinated

    Kennedy is assassinated while in an open top convertible through a ten mile motorcade in Dallas, Texas. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald with no clear motive.
  • Lyndon B. Johnson Takes Over Reign

    After Kennedy is assassinated, Lyndon B. Johnson (Kennedy's Vice President) is sworn into office on Air Force One and becomes the new president of the United States. L. Johnson becomes the 36th president of the United States.
