    Logo is an educational programming language, designed in 1967 by Daniel G. Bobrow, Wally Feurzeig, Seymour Papert and Cynthia Solomon. The language was originally conceived to teach concepts of programming related to Lisp. It was later used to enable "body-syntonic reasoning" where students could understand the turtle's motion by imagining what they would do if they were the turtle. "Logo" is not an acronym. It was derived from the Greek logos meaning "word" or "thought".

Thompson's coworker Dennis Ritchie speculated that the name might be based on Bon, an earlier, but unrelated, programming language that Thompson designed for use on Multics. B was designed for recursive, non-numeric, machine independent applications, such as system and language software.

Ada was named after Ada Lovelace. Ada is designed for development of very large software systems.

    James Gosling, Mike Sheridan, and Patrick Naughton initiated the Java language project in June 1991. Java was originally designed for interactive television, but it was too advanced for the digital cable television industry at the time.     Delphi was originally developed by Borland as a rapid application development tool for Windows, and as the successor of Borland Pascal. Borland developer Danny Thorpe suggested the Delphi codename in reference to the Oracle at Delphi. One of the design goals of the product was to provide database connectivity to programmers as a key feature and a popular database package at the time was Oracle database; hence, "If you want to talk to [the] Oracle, go to Delphi"

    JavaScript was originally developed in 10 days in May 1995 by Brendan Eich. Although it was developed under the name Mocha, the language was officially called LiveScript when it first shipped in beta releases of Netscape Navigator 2.0 in September 1995, but it was renamed JavaScript when it was deployed in the Netscape browser version 2.0B3. Alongside HTML and CSS, it is one of the three essential technologies of World Wide Web content production; the majority of websites employ it.
