Renovations to the Kreft Arts Building to Benefit the Students

  • The Decision is Made

    In the wake of the newly renovated and improved science building, leaders at Concordia Ann Arbor looked to the Arts and Music as their next area of improvement. According to Jerry Novak, the head of Maintenance, Grounds, and Construction, these improvements have been a long time coming.
    "The decision to renovate the Kreft Center has been on the table and in the works for a long time. The official decision came about in August of 2014 and the plans were drawn up soon after. " Novak said.
  • The Drawings Arrive

    The drawings for construction arrived in February, Jerry and a team of Contractors began to go over the plans and made the decision to split construction into two phases: renovation and addition.
  • Preparation for Construction

    Faculty began moving offices, labs, and supplies to accomodate the construction and renovation. The storages were cleaned out as well in preparation. Though they are being displaced, the faculty remains excited about the final product.
  • Phase One Begins

    "Phase one is the remodel stage. There will be a new vestibule entrance added on the West side and the old main entrance will be eliminated. New lab spaces and a recital hall will be added in the west end of the building. The remaining structures will be improved." Novak noted.
    Among some of the improvements are a 2-Dimensional Art Studio, a Mac Lab,
    This process began early April and is expected to be completed in early August, so that construction will not interfere with Fall semester.
  • Progress is Apparent

    The Construction is well under way and currently in the process of beginning the West Vestibule Entrance Construction as well as the closing of the original main entrance.
  • Phase One Finalized

    Among some of the improvements are an improved 2-Dimensional Art Studio and Mac Lab. Construction is expected to end in August so as to not interfere with the Fall Semester
  • Phase Two Begins

    Phase Two Begins
    "Phase two includes an addition to the east end of the building. New classroom spaces, lecture halls, a new 3-Dimensional Art Studio, and a scene shop for drama productions will be constructed." Novak said. The renovated 2-D studio will also be converted into Lecture hall space.
  • Construction is Completed

    The renovations are expected to be finished in their entirety by August of 2016. Novak and others involved in the process are positive about the renovations and what their students will be able to get out of them. "We're all hoping that the new facilities improve the experience of Art and Music students while they are with us at Concordia."
