    Treaty that ended French and Indian War. France gives up North American Colonies. Land east of Mississippi River goes to England. Spain gives Florida to England.

    England forbids colonization west of Appalachian Mountains.
  • Sugar Act

    First law put on colonists to raise taxes. A tax on sugar and molasses going into the colonies.

    Colony families were forced to provide food and housing for British soldiers.

    Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Indians and dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor from three British Ships.

    Because of the Boston Tea Party, British passed this act. It put military force in Boston and closed the Boston Harbor until the tea was paid for.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    All thirteen colonies, except for Georgia, attended a meeting in Philadelphia to discuss a petition to King George III. It gave the king a chance to "right wrongs" with the colonists.
  • Lexington and Concord

    First battle of Revolutionary War. British were on their way to arrest Samuel Adams and John Hancock in Concord and seize accumulated battle supplies, but met Colonials in Lexington.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Congress meeting in Philadelphia. They selected George Washington to lead the Continental Army.
  • Bunker Hill

    Colonists controlled Breed's Hill. 3,000 British attacked the colonists from the front by running up the hill. Colonists mowed them down, but ran out of ammo and ran.

    The last petition the colonies sent to the king asking to prevent further hostilities. Shot down by the king after the battle of bunker hill.

    Cornwallis had blundered into a trap. After Virginia, he fell back to Chesapeake Bay, while waiting for supplies and more troops. Washington, with help from the French, beset British on the land. Cornwallis surrendered his 7000 men.
