  • The Missouri Compromise

    To keep the Senate equal, Missouri became a slave state and marine became a free state. 36-30 was the new line to decide for future states.
  • Fugitive slave act

    The Fugitive slave act was an act that made all citizens help capture African Americans who were trying to escape slavery in the South, this was because of the amount of leaving their masters to go to the North trying to become free.
  • Compromise of 1850

    The compromise of 1850 allowed California to become a free state, it also separated the rest of Mexico's Cession into the borders of New Mexico and Utah.
  • Election of 1850

    The election took place in Chicago, Illinois. Abraham Lincoln was against Willaim Seward in the nomination of the president. Once Lincon became president he agreed democrats making slavery illegal.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    People in Missouri were hoping to move with their slaves across the border to make Kansas a slave state, Missouri Banded Slavery in Kansas and Nebraska Including Missouri.
  • Uncle Toms Cabin Published

    This event was because of the growing anti-slavery "mood" up in the north. Harriet Beecher Wrote a novel called " Uncle Tom's Cabin." This novel covered the topic of how terrible slavery was.
  • South Carolina Secedes

    On December 20th South Carolina became the first state to break away. In February 1861 Mississippi and Texas also seceded they broke away because they wanted to form a new nation called the Confederate States.
  • Dred Scott Case

    Dred Scott vs. Stand Ford was a case that reached the Supreme Court to end slavery, The court made it illegal in some states to "own" people as slaves in 1857, Wisconsin.
  • John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry

    john brown led a group of followers including African Americans, brown wanted to raid were house he was captured and 10 were killed.
