Prior to the Trials
A group of people wanted to establish a separation from Salam Town. So a congregation was formed under the Rev. Samuel Parris, in hopes of doing just that. He used the Salem Village Meeting House as a place of worship. The Putmans represented over half of the members of this congregation. During this time Parris, as the Minister received a wealthy salary and free goods for his position.
