    Magna Carta
    It recognized the right of Englishmen to be consulted on the levying of taxes and have their rights to be protected by a jury of their peers. It was the Basis of the English Parliamentary and Judicial Systems. It guaranteed the people certain rights and made the king stuck with certain laws. It was orgninally issued by King John of England. Most of the 63 claused that were granted by King John dealt with gievances relating to his rule.

    England comes to U.S.
    England came first and created Jamestown. It was the first attempt for settling in the New World for England in 1607. Then Plymouth was created in 1619. It was created for religious purposes. Piligrams came to Plymouth searching for religious freedom and came to get land.

  • House of Burgesses

    House of Burgesses
    In Jamestwon they used the House of Birgesses as a way of maintaining order and attracting new colonists. Only property owners were allowed to vote. It was the first legislative assembly in the American colonies. The first assembly met on July 30, 1619 in the church in Jamestown. At the meeting there were 22 burgesses reprenting 11 plantations.

    The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of plymouth Colony. It was written by separatist Congregationalists who called themselves Saints. They were later referred to as Pilgrims. Male members of the Puritan church also governed society throught town meetings. Each town sent two representative to Boston.

    This gave people the right to be consulted through their representatives, on the levying of taxes. Settlers applied this rule of law in the colonial government. It said that the power of the king should be limited by Parliament. It was passed by the Parliament of Great Britain. The English Bill of Rights was later added on by the Act of Settlement in 1701.

    It was armed conflict betwen Great Britian and the thirteen of its North American colonies. The fighting took place mostly on North America. France wanted revenage after its defeat in the Seven Years' War so it signed an alliance with the new nation. 6,824 Americans were killed in battle. 4,000 Great Britian army troops were killed during battle.

    The Great Compromise were two plans that were created during the Constitutional Convention to create new branches of government. It was proposed by Roger Sherman and Oliver Ellsworth. It proposed a solution to the heated debate between larger and small states over their repsenation. The convention adopted the Great Compromise by a one-vote margin.

    Federalist Papers
    The Federalist Papers contain 85 letter written to newspapers in the late 1780s to urge ratification of the U.S. Constitution. The articles was wrritten in the spirit both of propaganda and of logical argument. It was published in a book form as the Federalist in 1788. The 85 letters were written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay that urged them to ratification of the Constitution.

    During this case the Supreme Court announced for the first time the principle that a court may declare an act of Congress void if it is inconsistent with the Constitution. Chief Justice John Marshall denied the petition and rufused to issue the writ. He said that the Constitution didn't give the Supreme Court the power to issuse writs of mandamus.

    The Virginia Company was a joint stock company that was approved by King James I. It was used to create new settlements in Virginia. It was a business organization that investors pooled money in order to purchase stock in a company.The charter of the Virginia Company was a document that granted approval for the Virginia Company to establish two settlements in the New World and grant the joint stock company the right to govern the colonies they establish.
