In September 1969 the first host computer was connected at UCLA. One month later, two computers were connected, and the first host-to-host message was sent. By the end of 1969 four host computers had been connected and the internet began to grow. -

National Science Foundation Role
The NSF started the growth of internet within universities and to companies. Between the beginning of 1986 and the end of 1987 the number of networks grows from 2,000 to nearly 30,000. By January 1989 the number of hosts increased to 80,000 then to 130,000 in July, and over 160,000 in November. -
