    He sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and arrived in the Americas. He thought he was near Asia because he didn't know the Americas existed.

    -Some people wanted to own land.
    -Other people came for religious freedom.
    Some people came to America as indentured servants (they had to work for a lon time to get their freedom).

    The Boston Tea Partt was a protest against the British tax on tea.
    The tax was extra money the colonists had to pay for tea.

    British troops marched from Boston to Lexington and Concord to take the colonists' weapons. The colonists fought back.
    Nearly 100 colonists and 250 British soliders were killed or wounded.
    That was the beginning of the War for Independence

    Soon after the war began, representatives for all the colonies met in Philadelphia again.They voted for the independence.
    Thomas Jefferson wrote a document explaning why colonists wanted to be independent from Britan. This document was called the Declaration of Independence.

    Whith the help of the French, Washinton trapped the British army at Yorktown, Virginia. There, the British surrended.
    The war was over!

    This traty made the colonies one independent nation.
