    The main charector of the story is a young man named Holden Caulfield. The book begins with Holden explaining how he has failed 4 out of his 5 classes. He then goes and visits one of his former teachers, Spencer.
  • The Holden and Stradlater Fued

    The Holden and Stradlater Fued
    The rest of the night consists of tense interacctions between Holden and one of his roomates, Sradlater. It turns out that Stradlater is going on a date with a girl that Holden has feelings for, which causes tension between the two. A fight eventually ensues when Holden tares up an english paper that he wrote for Stradlater. Stradlater punches Holden in the face which causes him to bleed from his nose.

    After the fight, Holden tries to sleep but cannot, so he decides that he wants to go to New York and leave his school forever. He quickly packs his things and shouts "Sleep tight, ya morons!" while he leaves.

    Once Holden arrives in New York he takes a cab to a nearby hotel where he observes the New York night life from his room. He then goes to a neearby nighclub and meets some women from Seattle. He begins conversing with them but, they end up teasing because of how young he is. He ends up paying for all of the drinks.

    After Holden leaves the night club, he decides to take a taxi to another nightclub called "Ernies". He sits in Ernies for a while and then runs into a girl named Lillian Simmons. Lillian Simmons use to date his older brother and she introduces Holden to her current boyfriend. Lillian invites Holden to sit down with them but instead he leaves.

    After Holden leaves Ernie's, he walks back to his hotel. On his way to his room he is offered a prostitue, which he accepts. However, once he meets the girl he becomes nervous and refuses her push for sexual acts. After the prostitue leaves, she soon comes back with her pimp. They demand that Holden pays them more money. The altercation beomes physical and Holden gives them the money after being punched in the face.

    The next day, Holden arranges a date with a girl he knows named Sally. They see a play together and then they go ice skating at Rockefeller Center. Everything is going fine until Holden begins to ramble about how much he hates school and how he wants to escape from modern society. He ends up making Sally cry which then influences them to part ways.

    After getting very drunk at a bar, Holden decides to walk to his parents apartment in order to visit his younger sister "Phoebe". Both of his parents are at a party so Holden and Phoebe are able to talk to each other. However, his parents eventually come home which causes Holden to hide in a closet. He then sneaks out of the apartment.

    After leaving his parents apartment, Holden arranges to meet with an old english teacher of his, Mr. Antolini. Holden tells Mr. Antolini about his academic dilemma, and how he hates prep school. They discuss multiple aspects of education before Holden falls asleep on Mr. Antolini's couch. However, Holden is awoken in the night because he feels Mr. Antolini stroking his head. Even though Mr. Antolini denies being homosexual, Holdan leaves his apartment.
  • Holden's Departure

    After leaving Mr. Antolini's house, Holden spends the night in the train station. He then walks to Phoebe's school and gives her a note telling her to meet him at a museum. His discovery of profane words written on walls makes him depressed and makes him begin to worry if someone is going to vandalize his tombstone. He then meets with Phoebe and they begin to argue because Phoebe wants to go with Holden. The two wander through New York until Holden begins to feel sick.
  • The Ending

    The Ending
    Holden's walk with Phoebe in the park was vaugely explained however, Holden does admit that he became ill and was sent to a rest home. He is now planning on attending a new school in the future.
