King Henry VIII Takes the throne

After the death of his older brother, Arthur; King Henry VIII was crowned king in a joint coronation ceremony with is new wife, Catherine of Aragon. Let's see how he was as a boy. Henry VIII was born at the Palace of Placentia, Greenwich on 28 June 1491. Growing up, his focus in education was theology. Outside of school, riding, music, jousting and tennis were 4 of his talents. The closest friend was his cousin,William Compton. Before the throne, Henry VIII was a handsome, educated and eligible.

Married to Catherine of Aragon

After Catherine of Aragon was married and widowed by the death of Price Arthur, Henry VII's other son, Henry VIII's older borther. Although Catherine was a widow, she was still young enough to marry again; and Arthur's younger brother was much healthier and a good prospect.

Catherine has a stillborn daughter, prematurely

Shortly after their marraige, Catherine found herself pregnant. Although this child was stillborn the disapointment was soon overcome with joy, Catherine being pregnant again.

Mary I is born

Feb 18, 1516

Mary's mother is Cathrine of Argon. Her father is Henry VIII. She was the only surviving child born of the ill-marriage. Edward succeeded Henry VIII. When Edward became ill in 1553, he wanted to get rid of Mary in the line of succession because of their different religious views Mary is famous for her restoration of Roman Catholicism after the short-lived Protestant reign of Edward. Because of her brutal persecution of Protestants, opponents gave her the name Bloody Mary.

Divorced Catherine of Aragon

After Henry's affair came ot light, Anne Boleyn quickly became pregnant. Catherine of Aragon was then divorced and moved around to various dank castled while Anne took her role as Queen. King Henry VIII offically left the church at this time, because divorced was greatly frowned upon.

Married to Anne Boleyn

Anne Boleyn is married to King Henry VIII secretly because he hadn't officially divorced Catherine yet. After giving birth to Elizabeth, she became preganent again but miscarried. She had a still born after that and it happened to be a male. Since King Henry began to fancy Jane Seymour Anne feared for her life since she didnt have a boy. Sure enough he put her and her brother on trial for treason and she was also accused of adultery becuase Henry dissolved thier marriage. She was found guilty.

Catherine of Aragon gets divorced

After 23 years, 11 months, 11 days, King Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon get divorced.

The Act of Supremacy of November 1534 was an act from the Parliament of England controlled by King Henry VIII declaring that he was "the only supreme head on earth of the Church in England" and that the English crown shall enjoy "all honours, dignities, preeminences, jurisdictions, privileges, authorities,
immunities, profits, and commodities to the said dignity."

King Henry Leaves the Catholic Church

When he went to the pope for the second time demanding a divorce with Anne Boleyn, the pope responed with a no. Furious that he was not able to get rid of his wife, King Henry decided to leave the church. King Henry VIII, wanting a divorce and wanting to expand his personal power, created the church of England, which fundamentally was identical to Roman Catholicisim, except no allegience to the Pope.

Catherine of Aragon dies

Jan 7, 1536

After being divorced and living in various dank castles until the age of 51, she died from a mysterious cause, at Kimbolton Castle and was buried at Peterborough Abbey.

Anne Boleyn gets executed

May 19, 1536

At the Tower of London, Anne Boleyn gets executed under the hands of her husband, King Henry VIII. Anne and her brother were put on trial for treason and Anne was also accused of adultery. (Henry dissolved their marriage), even though she tried to prove they were married she was found guilty. George Boleyn was executed on May 17th at Tower hill and 2 days later she was executed.

Jane Seymour marries Henry VIII

May 30, 1536

Jane seymour married Henry VIII 2 days after Anne was executed. It was thought that Henry had feelings for Jane and that is one of the reasons he decided to execute Anne. It is also said that Jane was reluctant on marrying Henry because she saw that he divorced his first wife and killed the second. She was the first of his wives to have a son and a few weeks after birth she died. She was the only wife that was burried with Henry.

Edward VI is born

After a little over a year, Jane Seymour dies in the Hampton Court Palace.

Anne of Cleves marries Henry VIII

Anne of Cleves didnt marry Henry VIII until about 2 years after Jane Seymours death, It is said that is because Henry still had feelings for Jane. Henry decided to find his wife he was going to have artists find paintings of women in royalty that he could marry and form an alliance with. Anne was the sister of the Duke of Cleves. Many things came up that leaded towards tension. First, she was not as attractive as he wanted, and the Duke of cleves and the empire were having political problems--->

Anne of Cleves Continued

and Henry didnt want to get involved in a war. Lastly, Henry became attracted to Kathryn Howard. Anne realized she didnt want to get in the middle of King Henry, so they dissolved the marriage. Anne was given the title of 'King sister'. She died July 16, 1557.

and Henry doesnt want to get into war, Also Henry began to fall for Kathryn Howard. Anne didnt want to get in the middle of Henry, so the marriage was dissolved. Anne was given the repectful title of 'Kings sister'. Anne died on July 16, 1557.

Anne of Cleves gets divorced

After 6 months, Anne of Cleves gets divorced from King Henry VIII.

Kathryn Howard marries Henry VIII

Kathryn was waiting on Anne of Cleves when she was Queen. She was the daughter of Lord Edmund Howard. She married King Henry when he was about 49 years old and she was no older then 19. It is said that she put some zeal back into King Henry while they were married. King Henry called her 'rose without thorns' and the 'very jewel of womanhood'. There were suspisions that Kathryn was seeing another man closer to her age. Henry did have someone futher investigate. Sure enough she was and soon killed

Kathryn Howard gets executed

Feb 13, 1542

In the Tower of London, Kathryn Howard gets executed under the hands of King Henry VIII, her husband. She was exucated because of the act of seeing another man while still married to King Henry VII. She was buried next to her cousin Anne Boylen.

Katherine Parr marries Henry VIII

Jul 12, 1543

She is the last of King Henrys wives. She was named after King Henrys first wife Cathrine of Aragon, because her mother waited on the first queen. Kathrine married the King after being widowed the second time. She fancied Thomas Seymour (brother of Jane Seymour) but the King asked for her hand, so she accepted. A plot was against Katherine for having banned books which was heresy. Someone sent out a warrent for her arrest, but dropped it. She found out and she "fell ill" -->

She played with the kings ego and soon was forgiven. Soon the King died, and Edward was put in as King. She secretly married Thomas Seymour and this is when rumors about Elizabeth and Thomas Seymour were going around and that is when she had to leave the country. Soon Kathrine became preganet and she moved to Gloucestershire. She gave birth to a girl named Mary. She soon fell ill and died.

Edward VI took the throne

*He became king at age nine when his father (King Henery VIII) died.
*He changed the churches to where they are plain and no longer decorated and painted.
*He changed it so the priests were allowd to marry.
*He also had the catholics persecuted and had catholics laws banned.
*His reign lasted a very short time because he got ill in 1533.

King Edward Dies

King Edward died due to a health failure. He had a very short time being king.

CONTINUE (MARY CROWNED)

Mary decided she wanted to restore the catholic faith in England. Nobels were allowed to keep there monistaries that Henery VIII gave to them but she encouraged them to go back to thier church properties. Mideval heresy laws were restored meaning that heretics would be put on trial and put to death and property was handed over to the crown. Hatred of the queen arose and about 275 people died. This is how she got her nickname "Bloody Mary"

Mary becomes Crowned

Henry VIII said that after Edward died if Mary was still alive and Edward had no heirs, she would become queen. When Edward started to become ill, many people convinced him to send the heir to his cousin Jane. When Mary heard of the rebellions she put Jane and her husband to death and hung 100 rebels. 2 days after Mary was married to Prince Phillip, they were crowned King and Queen of England, France and Naples, Jerusalem and Ireland, defenders of the faith, and Princes of Spain and Sicily. -->

Any person working for the public or church office in England was to swear allegiance to the monarch (Mary at the time) as Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

Elizabeth I is crowned

She was crowned by Owen Oglethorpe a little less then 2 months after Marys death. Elizabeth had a threat of Mary Queen of Scots (not Mary I) who was trying to claim the throne to England. Elizabeth knew she was a threat so she had Mary excecuted on February 8th. Another threat Elizabeth had was when the Armada from Spain came toward the island nation.
