Events Leading to the American Revolution

  • The French and Indian War

    The British, colonists, and a group of indians and the French and other group of indians fought for American land. All parties wanted the natural resources in the Ohio valley, which was west of the Appalachian Mountains. Colonists fought with Britain as allies, to gain protection from the indians. At the end of the war, Britain declares victory, but the colonists face new taxes, tighter control from England, and weren't allowed to travel west of the Proclamation Line.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was taxes on importing molasses and sugar. The colonists needed to pay for the protection for the british, the colonists had to pay for the standing army. The Patriots created the Sons Of Liberty, they used violence and threatened tax collectors so they would quit their jobs. The loyalists kept paying their taxes and lived their lives. Since the colonies were rebelling, they made The Declaratory Act, which made it so Britain was the only ones who made the laws.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Sugar Act was taxes on all paper goods. The colonists needed to pay for the protection for the british, the colonists had to pay for the standing army.   • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts were taxes on imported glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. The taxes collected were used to pay for military expenses, and for Governors for the colonies salaries. The patriots boycotted, Attacked homes of the tax collectors, and formed the Sons of Liberty. The loyalists kept paying their taxes and buying goods from England. Governor Francis Bernard requested more troops and disbanded the Massachusetts Legislature.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was and event were British soldiers killed Colonists. The cause for this was that the Colonist were rioting against taxes and throwing objects at the soldiers. Britain were shooting at the Colonist (threatened) this would of never had happened if the Colonist did not riot. The loyalist thought that the soldiers were not guilty and it was the Colonists fault. Britain in response to this, mad the soldiers leave Boston. This was significant because it got colonist mad at Britain
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was when 50 members of the Sons Of Liberty dumped 342 crates of tea from England into the harbor. The cause of this event was because after the Boston Massacre, Britain got rid of all of the taxes except for on tea. So because of this, 50 patriots dressed up like mohawk indians and dumped the tea into the harbor. The loyalists were upset about the patriot's actions. England was beyond done with all of the stuff Boston was going so they came into Boston to show them whos boss
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The intolerable act were a bunch of acts passed from britain to punish the people in Boston for the Boston Tea Party. The patriots were not happy but they were forced to do things, and if they didn't do them they would be punished and/or killed. The loyalists started to realize how mean and evil the British were and starting supporting the patriots in their mission to stop being controlled by England and King George.
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress was when colonist sent delegates to Pennsylvania to meet and discuss current events and stick up for Massachusetts, that's why Congress met. The patriots decided to send a letter to Britain threatening to boycott and they created the Malita. Some loyalist decided to start to side with the colonies. Britain ordered more troops to go into the colonies and take away colonist weapons because King George knew that they couldn't fight his army.
