    The Industrial Revolution altered the way in which goods were made, and the way the people lived.
  • First Factory

    First Factory
    The first factory was built in Soho, Birmingham and was owned by a man named Matthew Boulton. The factory took over homes as the main centre of production and people from rural areas were coming to work there.

    The Spinning Jenny
    The spinning Jetty was invented by James Hargreaves in 1764. The spinning jenny would make double the amount of yarn that the flying shuttle would have made. The spinning jenny reduced the amount of work needed to produce yarn

    During the Industrial Revolution Factories took over Homes as the centre of production. It was much larger allowing big machines to make bigger and better resources and also quicker.

    After the first factory was built machines took over the humans as the centre of production. Humans were required to run the machines but the machines would produce goods quicker and better.

    The first reliable steam engine was improved by James Watt. There were steam engines before but it consumed a lot of coal which would mean Britain wouldn'tget as much profit for the coal they mined. In 1769 James Watt improved the steam engine and the new steam engine would consume a lot less coal then the steam engines Britain were using before.

    The water frame is the name given to a water powered spinning frame. This invventionn was patented in 1769 by Richard Arkwright. Even though John Kay invented it Richard Arkwright patented it because John Kay was working for Richard.

    When the Industrial Revolution hit Countries like Britain and Germany Population Growth started in the places where there were factories because you would get more money working there then working in the country on farms.

    In 1774, Claude de Jouffroy invented the first steamship. Claude's steamship invention gave the trade a big boost. With the steamship invented it allowed countries to trade resources easier to one another.

    Problems in Cities
    Around 1770 after a lot of people had moved to the cities, problems started to occur. The problems were people being left homeless, diseases spreading, poor sanitary conditions, crowded streets and poverty. WIth problems in the cities like these it would mean a lot of humans could die at a young age.

    In 1776, David Bushnell designed and invented the submarine torpedo boat.The one-man vessel submerged by admitting water into the hull and surfaced by pumping it out with a hand pump. Powered by a pedal-operated propeller.

    Around 1776 when the population growth had hit living standards in places that got hit were really bad like Britain, Germany and The United States. Over time until it was around the 1780's living standards had got more better and there was a less chance of getting a disease.

    After the invention of the steamship in 1775, trade between countries got bigger since we could trade between different countries thanks to the steamship.

    In 1786 John Fitch invented the first steamboat. This steamboat was different to the steamship because the steamship would transport big and bulky items unlike the steamship which would transport the people to their destination.

    In 1830, George Stephenson was the chief engineer for several railways but the first public railway he built was in 1830, from Liverpool to London

    The Electric Telegraph
    The Electric telegraph was invented by Samuel Morse. The electric telegraph would communicate to people from far distance. The way it worked is it would transmit electrical signals over wires which would then translate into a message. The method was called the Morse code.

    Chartism was a working class movement that started in 1838 mostly in the countries that were affected by industrial revolution. It had six demands which were:

    1. A vote for every man over the age of 21;
    2. A secret ballot;
    3. No property qualification for members of Parliament;
    4. Payment for MPs (so poor men could serve);
    5. Constituencies of equal size;
    6. Annual elections for Parliament.

    Samuel Cunard begins translantic steamship service
    In 1840, Samuel Cunard's created a stemship company called Cunard Steamships Limited, Later in the year the comapny's first steamship, the Britannia sailed from Liverpool to Hafilax, Nva Scotia and Boston. With Cunard and 63 other passengers, marking the beginning of regular passenger and cargo service.

    After the gold mine in Ballarat were found a rush of people from all around the country and other countries came. The main domination of people there were the chinese. The goldfields were mainly filled with chinese and they set up their own camp with their own chinese temple.

    In 1851, Isaac singer improved all the sewing machines invented before and was patented for having the best practical sewing machine that did its job best.

    On the 2nd onf August, 1851 a gold region down south was discovered by Thomas Hiscock. The find brought other people to this place and the first people to find gold there were John Dunlop and James Regan.

    In 1856 an engineer and inventor whose name was Henry Bessemer invented the mass production of steel. The Bessemer coverter was the invention that bolstered molten steel using ceratin alloys then it was poured and made into shape.

    In 1885 a car engineer whose name was Karl Benz invented the first petrol powered automobile. Karl Benz named his automobile Mercedes Benz and was granted a patent for his invention in 1885.
