    The ICRC received a cable from their head quarters in Geneva, directing them to inspect camps of POWs and civilian internees in the Asian countries of India and Burma.

  • The Nobel Peace Prize 1944 was awarded to International Committee of the Red Cross

    During the selection process in 1944, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said that none of the year's nominations met the criteria as outlined in the will of Alfred Nobel. According to the Nobel Foundation the Nobel Prize can in such a case be reserved until the following year. The International Committee of the Red Cross therefore received the Nobel Prize for 1944 one year later, in 1945.
