The Invention Of The Steam Engine

  • The First Steam Engine

    The First Steam Engine
Thomas Savery invented the steam engine on the second of July 1698.They were used to pump water from mines but were hopelessly inefficient due to huge losses of steam. The engine was named the Newcomen engine after the inventor.

in 1711 Thomas Newcomen, developed a better way to pump water from mines. His system used a redesigned steam engine that eliminated the need for steam pressure combined— a flaw in Savery's system that led to explosions. Newcomen's engine was the first commercially successful machine that used steam to operate a water pump.

Despite it's being an improvement on Savery's initial rendering of the steam engine, Newcomen's engine also had its flaws. The machine was highly inefficient, requiring a constant flow of cold water to cool the steam cylinder as well as a constant energy source to reheat the cylinder.

Regardless of this major drawback, Newcomen's engine design went unchallenged for the next 50-or-so years and aside from pumping water out mines it was also used to drain wetlands, supply water to towns and even power factories and mills by pumping water from below a water wheel to above it for re-use.

    The Start Of A Revolution
In 1765 James Watt, began repairing a small model of a Newcomen's engine But by 1765, the fate of Newcomen's engine was sealed. Watt was perplexed by the large amount of steam consumed by Newcomen's machine and realized that to soulition to this inefficiency was to abolish with the constant cooling and reheating of the steam cylinder. he did this by creating a separate condenser which allowed the steam cylinder to be keep at a constant temperature

    The Industrial Revolution

The industrial revolution was the biggest event the world ever saw. people came to realise that machine could do the work for you, but of course there was a downside. Peasants got fired from jobs because machine were allot faster more efficient and cost less.
The rich got richer and the poor got poorer.Trains became frequent and people started to immigrate and the world started to really started to pick up as technology became allot more frequent
and human kind advanced to a age of machines
