    The story begins with the narrator telling of harsh Ohio winter. Icicles form wherever they have enough water. The cold air breaks into people's skin. Off at a launch pad within the town, there is a rocket prepared to go on a mission. The rocket then takes off leaving behind pink, fiery clouds and a sense of hope in the town.

    Three men from earth arrive on Mars and discover a sort of Martian settlement. After multiple groups of martian meet them, there is a plan devised. Some of the martians decide to talk to these men later and try to find out anything they want to learn. Mr. Xxx however gets very paranoid and things that they are just hallucinations. He shoots the crew to make them disappear and they dont. He then shoots himself.

    This chapter goes into how names on Mars are formed. Lands’ names al formed by people and the thing the people did (Hinkston Creek, Lustig Corners, Black River, etc.). Most predominant appear to be “Red Town” named from the blood spewed by the Earth mens’ murder and “Second Town” named for the second expedition. The old Martian names were of water, air, and hills (towns & graveyards took this pattern).

    The owner of the luggage store heard the news on the radio that there was going to be a war on Earth. After he hears this news he goes out looks at Earth in the sky. The owner can not believe that war will soon breakout on Earth. Father Peregrine tells the shopkeeper that it is because the owner isn’t on Earth. The owner questions Peregrine on his response. A huge influx of customers soon swarm trying to get luggage to go home.

A morse code message is sent to them, with news that the atomic stockpile of Australia prematurely explode, wiping out the continent; further, London and Los Angeles have been bombed and the settlers should come home. At 3 a.m. , a crowd flocks to the luggage store, whose proprietor stayed open for this eventuality; he sells out of his goods by dawn.

Captain meets the family who looks the same as they did years before. Nothing has changed it seems. Hathaway later reveals that they are robots and Wilder finds that the real family died 19 years prior. John goes into a panic and has a heart attack and dies. The robots show no emotion through this.

The house lets it in and the dogs has a fit and dies. Later that evening a fire erupts due to a storm. The house catches fire and cant be put out. The house eventually collapses and all you hear from the rubble is "Today is August 5, 2026"
