    Exploration of Africa

The exploration done in the coasts of Africa were by Portuguese sailors who were in search of other beneficial sea routes to Asia that bypassed the Mediterranean. They worked themselves up from West Africa growing their trade empire which was poor. The first ship of African slaves arrived in Portugal in 1444 from West Africa.Truly, Africa already existed yet the European explorers who came to Africa in the 1400s changed the overall standpoint and culture in Africa.

    Age of Exploration

Columbus, Vespucci, and Marco Polo, were some of the creators that sparked the Age of Exploration, and the start of cartography. The world in the beginning of the Middle Ages consisted of Europe, Africa (wide and demonstrating no limit), and Asia (no limit either). Marco Polo began trading of spices because he brags of Asia's prosperity to Europe. The Venicions and the Genuese controlled the Mediterranean trade routes causing Portugal and other areas to search for other trade routes.

  • Asante

Expanded in present day Ghana. Osei Tutu began gaining control starting with the trading city, Kumasi. then went around the neighboring cities. Osei Tutu was able to unite the Asante Kingdom by claiming that he recieved his "right to rule" by the heavens and that his people were linked together by "spiritual bonds." This tactic helped defeat their rival kingdom, Denkyera. The Asante constructed an affluent and influential state by exchanging gold and slaves for firearms with the Europeons.
  • Industrial Revolution

Sir Richard Arkwright noticed that most people were lucky to have more than two shirts in England because the process of making these shirts (spinning silk) was too long and tiring. Therefore he invented the water frame (see Arkwrights water frame). This sparked many jobs in Europe. The industrial Revolution was the era of iteracy and health progress as well as social mobility. Technology and knowledge spreads for the advancement of human kind.
  • Arkwright's Water Frame

    R. Arkwright technologically advanced textile manufacture by inventing a machine that spin with the help of water that produced cotton yarn for more efficient warping. He then went on to open many factories because he saw success and carried out multiple phases of textile manufactoring from spinning to carding.
  • Origin of Species

The "On the Origin of Species" was published by Charles Darwin revealing his (back than thought of) "bizarre" ideas. With years of research Darwin claimed that all forms of live had evolved over millions of years. His theory was natural selection because members of species adapt because they want to survive. The best adaptation suitable "wins" ("survival of the fittest). Archaeology completed the puzzle of the origins on Earth.
  • Social Darwinism/ Survival of the fittest

The theory of Natural Selection came to be known as "survival of the fittest" where the member of a species that adapts (in a good way) is superior and more likely to survive. People began implying this theory to their own beliefs of society. Wars between nations highlighted the weak by loss, economic rivalry put out the weak business, and the success of Western civilization was claimed to be because of the "supremacy" of white race.
  • Partition of Africa

The Kongo king, King Affonso I wrote to King John III of Portugal complaining about the "excessive freedom" given to the Portuguese who had come to Africa to leave with a great amount of slaves, and prohibit the Africans of their goods. They also brought with them Christianity which influenced the culture of Africa.
