The Story of Me

  • Birth

    Birth
I was born in Portland, Oregon at the Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center. My whole family was there to see including my grandparents on my dad's side, my dad, my older brother, and older sister. My sister was so happy to have a little sister, since she had her little brother with her for 3 years before I came along.
  • The Split

    The Split
My parents were unhappily married for about 8 years. When I was around 3 or 4, they decided to split up. Soon after that they got divorced. For years my father was an alcoholic and was verbally and physically abusive toward my mother, even at one time threatening to kill her. There was no way my mother could have stayed with him because it would eventually be a threat to all of our lives.
  • The Last Visit

    The Last Visit
For a couple years on and off, our dad had partial custody of us, so we saw him frequently. They weren't the most memorable moments. He would be drinking so we would be neglected, left to fend for ourselves, or left outide all day not aloud to come back in. He was an irresponsible father, so our mom made sure that the court only let us visit him if he wasn't drinking. He was eventually caught drinking and driving with us and lost all unsupervised visitation.
  • Remarried

    Remarried
On August 26, 2009, 8 days after I turned 10, my mother remarried. The man she married was and currently is a wonderful step-father. This changed our life dramatically. We moved from Oregon to Arizona a few weeks or maybe a month later. It had been at least 2 years since I had seen my dad last.
  • Last day we speak

    Last day we speak
October 3rd, 2012 was the last day I spoke to my dad. After we moved to Arizona, we kept in contact. Occasionally we would text, but that was it. Our father never really made an effort to visit us, so I decided to stop our communication. It was a useless effort to talk to him when it didn't benefit either of us. Although my real dad has not assumed the role of our father and family head, I am greatful that my step-father willingly did so.
