  • Monarchy disolves in Europe

    King Charles I disolves the monarch and tries to rule with absolute power. This drives many people to leave to go to America.
  • Founding of Providince and Rhode Island

    Roger Williams founds Providince and Rhode Island when he was banished for "new and dangerous opinions" this lead him to create religious, political freedoms and seperation of church and state in his new colony
  • Navigation Act of 1660

    The English forced colonists to use English ships for importing goods and trade in English colonies.
  • Navigation Act of 1663

    most imports to colonies must be transported via England on English ships
  • Dutch vs British

    Dutch military forces the retake of New York from the British
  • Revoke of Edict of Nantes

    After Louis XIV revokes the Edict of Nantes, protestants flee France and come to America
  • James II

    James II tried consolidating colonies of New England into one denomination. The colonists lost their political rights, power and independence. Their legislatures disolved and the king's represntatives take power.
  • Sir Edmund Andros

    Sir Edmund Andros of England limits townhall meetings and places all militias under his control
  • Navigation Act of 1696

    The Navigation Act of 1696 declared that all trade will be done on English ships. It also stated it had the right to forcable entry and requires the posting of bonds on certain goods.
  • Whool Act

    This act forbids the export of whool from the colonies
  • Detroit

    The French establish a settelment in Detroit.
  • Yale College

    Yale College is founded in Connecticut
  • "Tuscarora Indian War"

    This war was fought between the Native Americans and the North Carolina colonists. It was two years long.
  • Riots in Philadelphia

    Poor people began to riot in Philadelphia, they tear down pillories and stocks and burn them
  • First Jewish Colonists

    The first Jewish colonists arived in New York City, to have religious freedom, and they built the first American Synagogue.
  • Pennsylvania Gazette

    Benjamin Franklin started publishing the Pennsylvania Gazette, it becomes the one of the most popular colonial newspaper.
  • Baltimore

    Baltimore is founded in Maryland
  • Copper Coins

    The first colonial copper coins are minted in Connecticut
  • American Philosophical Society

    Ben Franklin founds the American Philosophical Society with his associates in Philadelphia
  • Currency Act

    The English Parlament passes the Currency Act, which bans the issuing of paper money in New England colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    English Parlament passes the Stamp Act which is the first direct tax on American colonies. This is the first time they will not pay taxes to their legislature.
  • Quartering Act

    Also passes by the English, is the Quartering Act which states that colonists must house British troops.
  • Mob in Boston

    In Boston, a mob attacks the house of Thomas Hutchinson
  • Boycotting of English goods

    Boycotting English goods spreads to New Jersey, Rhode Island and North Carolina
  • Violence in 1770

    In New York, violence breaks out between Sons of Liberty and 40 British soldiers. Several men are injured.
