    Hand Written Documents

    Hand Written Documents
Before the invention of the movable type in 1041, every document was written by hand. The medium of printing varied from clay tablets, to papyrus leaves, to paper in ca 10. This was vastly inefficient and had many variations between each copy. First recorded hand written document was back in 3000 BCE.

    Invention of the Movable Type

    Invention of the Movable Type
This was invented in China, due to the huge character amount in their written language, this was still an incredibly slow process. Even with the lack of speed and efficiency the movable type went on to greatly expand the public's accumulation and understanding of knowledge.

    Invention of the Gutenberg Press

    Invention of the Gutenberg Press
The earliest form of the printing press. This press removed any reason to copy books by hand, as it could now print 214 pages an hour. Changing the print of each page was manipulated by rearranging metal characters on the press. Once arranged the paper would have a piece of leather covered in ink placed over it. Next it would be slid underneath the press which would be forced downwards, via handle, to produce a sharp image on the paper. The press is credited to starting the modern era.
  • Offset Printing

    Offset Printing
This was a new type of printing that once again increased production speeds. Instead of pressing ink down on each paper, ink was instead stamped on a metal plate which transferred its image to a rubber plate, and then from there to the papers that ran through it. Not only did this make the printing process much more efficient, but it also made the process much easier.
  • Xerography Printing

    Xerography Printing
Discovered in 1938 by Chester Carlson, this form of printing consisted of lasers to put on dry images that no longer needed to dry. While it was a considerably more expensive way of printing at the time. It still increased production speeds and allowed for easier printing once again.
  • 3D Printing

    3D Printing
First created by a group of scientist over at MIT. Printing is started by designing the object in a Cad program. Next the 3D printer translates it to reality by melting plastic and layering it to form the image.
  • 3D Concrete Pinting

    3D Concrete Pinting
In 2014 a step was mode towards fully printing houses. This was 3D Concrete printing. This idea was formed by taking the basic 3D printing design, melting plastic and layering it, to making fresh cement and layering it to create the same effect.
