    Ghana

    There was much powerful wealth of gold in Ghana and was controlled. Islam greatly emerged in Ghana. There became a decline of Ghana because of drought and the story of Bida.
  • Period: Jan 1, 800 to Jan 1, 1550

    Mali

    Mali encompased many different regions, up to 40-50 million people. The son of the king Sundiata who defeated Ghana and made Mali a big empire. Mali soon took control of the trading routes. Mansa Musa who made his haaj to Mecca, which made Mali famous for it's riches.

    Songhay

    There are numerous accounts of historical roots to Sorko. Sonni Ali who was a king and a great warrior, also an expert horseman. He conquered Mali and built a big empire. Sonni Ali used his power to spread islam in Africa. Songhay comes to a decline because of civil war and invasion of Morocco.

    The age of Exploration marked the time when extensive exploration emerged that had an immense affect on in European culture.

    Atlantic slave trade

    There had been economical racial factors. Also had turned into triangular trade. Later on moved closely to North America.
  • Asante

    The Asante emerged which is now known as present day Ghana. In the late 1600s Osei Tutu took control of the trading city Kumasi. From that he conquered the Asanti kingdom. He had faith that the people in this kingdom were connected by spiritual bonds. This strategy paid off by the end when they were able to defeat there neighboring enemy Denkyera.

  • Arkwright’s water frame

    This water frame which was made by Richard Arkwright was built for Thomas Highs who was a clock maker. This machine was a water-powered spinning frame.
  • Origin of Species

    This is a book authored by Charles Darwin and set the foundation for what he believed was evolutionary biology.
  • Social Darwinism / Survival of the fittest

    Using Thomas Malthus's idea, Darwin showed that the process of natural selection was known as "survival of the fittest". Which means species physical traits must adapt to it's environment in order to survive the surroundings. Applying survival of the fittest to war and economic competition had been also known as social Darwinism. Also, Social Darwinism supported racism, one group of people were higher over another.
