Holiday camps
The first purpose-built holiday camp was opened by Billy Butlin in Skegness in 1936. Holiday camps worked
on the simple principal that if the children were happy on holiday then the parents would be happy as well.
To achieve this, holiday camps provided entertainment and activities for both parents and children at low,
all-inclusive prices, with the added bonus of a childminding service to allow parents to enjoy themselves.

The Tourism Act 1969
This was basically when they created the british tourist authority and tourist boards for england scotland and wales. The act's objective was to co-ordinate all the organisations that make up the tourism sector and provide it with one single voice. -
The 1980, 1985 Transport Act
The 1980 Transport Act ended licensing regulations affecting express coach routes and tours of over 30 miles. It led to competition between National Bus and private companies. The 1985 Travel Act bought about wholesale deregulation, this is meant private companies could operate on any route. -
Package holidays
Package holidays where brought in to make companies to come together and instead of telling their passengers everything they would just offer them these package holidays instead. Also these package holidays meant that when you arrived at the airport everything was their and sorted for you meaning that all your flights and hotels where booked and when you got to the holiday destination travel was already booked and ready for you when you arrive there. -
Centreparcs
Centerparcs opened in july 1987 and was brought in to be another one of these holiday camps but it was supposed to be better and posher. adding to this, Centerparcs is alos well known for its activities like assolt courses and other activities for the younger visitors. -
1992 The Package Travel Regulations
Since 1992 all the UK tour operators offering package holidays have been subject to the package travel regulations. The regulation set out the tour operators responsibilities to their customers can do if the regulations are breached. -
Air passenger Duty
In 1996, air passenger duty was reduced on economy flights, removing a barrier to the growth of inbound tourism. However in 2006, it was greatly increased. Further increases have been planned from November 2010 causing controversy in the industry. -
