    Colonies began to experiment with railroads and mining while also expanding their agricultural success. Although this was good for the colonists, it did cause conflict with the Native Americans. During the period of Westward Expansion both the Civil War and the Reconstruction period occured.

    Gilded Age
    The Gilded Age was from 1877-1900. That time era got the name of The Gilded Age because of its seemingly great exterior but "corrupt underneath". Although there was mass corruption, The Gilded Age was an important time fcr America because of its introduction to an industrialized economy and its efforts to end government corruption with The Civil Service Act.
  • U.S. Imperialism

    U.S. Imperialism
    U.S. Imperialism lasted from 1898-1914. This was a time for the U.S.'s expansion overseas. We had elected Teddy Roosevelt for president and he was leading us in the Spanish American War (1898). Another big part of this era was annexation of Hawaii.
  • Progressive Era

    Progressive Era
    The Progressive Era from 1900-1919 was an Era of Progress for America. It resulted in reform of child labor laws, and the selling of alcohol. The U.S. also made scientific advancements that helped manage our natural resources, by ensuring the quality of our milk and water. The end of this era was also the start of WW1.

    World War 1
    World War 1 (1914-1918) was a pivotal point for the 20th century. It destroyed the German, Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman and, Romanov emmpires. There were about 116,516 american deaths with 10 million soldiers dead total and 21 million wounded.

    The Roaring 20's
    The Roaring 20'S (1920-1929) was primarily significant for it social changes. This was the part in the century where the country moved away from its victorian past. Some significant issues during the 20's were foreign immigration, evolution, the ku klux klan, prohibition, womens roles, and race.
  • The Great Depression

    The Great Depression
    The Great Depression (1929-1941) began with the stock market crash of October, 1929. This was a time with a super low standard of living due to high unemployment and a bad economy. The Great Depression ended with Franklin D. Roosevelts New Deal.
  • World War 2

    World War 2
    World War 2 started in 1939 and ended in 1945. This war was the deadliest war in all of history. With 100 million soldiers deployed from more than 50 nations in the world, it was also one of the largest. A huge part in World War 2 was Nazi Germany led by Adolf Hitler who supported The Holocaust which was an affect of his persicution and murder of almost 6 million European Jews.
  • The Cold War

    The Cold War
    The Cold War lasted from 1941-1991. The Cold War was based on tension between the United States and the Soviet Union due to disagreement over dominance over Eastern Europe, control of tomic weapons and, the Soviet blockage of Berlin.
  • Civil Rights Movement

    Civil Rights Movement
    The Civil Rights movement lasted from 1954-1968. This era gave birth to a lot of the equality and freedom we see now amongst LGBT and African Americans. African Americans began to challenge segregation in court. In 1954, it was concluded that segregated schoos were unconstitutional. In 1964 the Cvil Rights Act was passed which prohibited the segregation of public facilities and ing 1965 the Voting Rights Act was passed which guaranteed voting rights.

    The Vietnam War was the longest war, lasting from 1954-1975. The Vietnam War started with Vietnam waging an anti-colonial ewar on France who recieved 2.6 billion in financial support from the U.S. Eventually, Vietnam was seperated into the communist north and the anti-communist south but eventually the north decided to fight the south, so the U.S. sent 2,000 troops help the south.
  • Late 20th Century

    Late 20th Century
    The late 20th century lasted from 1970-1999. President Ford, Nixon, Carter and Reagan all tried to strengthen the governtment in the 70's-80's and then, the Soviet Union and Eastern European Communism collapsed leving the U.S. as the only superpower. In the 90's the United States became one of the worlds sole superpowers.
  • U.S. in the 21st Century

    U.S. in the 21st Century
    The 21s century is lasting 2000-present. This era started with 9/11 and the destruction of the twin towers in New York. This led to the War on Terror which occured under President George Bush. Then in 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans where it killed around 2,000 people. Three years later in 2008, we experienced a economic recession. In the same year, President Obama was elected president making him the first African American president in history.
