  • Great Southwest Railroad Strike

    Great Southwest Railroad Strike
    200,000 railroad workers went on strike over unsafe conditions also for unfair hours and pay. The strike lasted from March to September 1886. The strikers were the Knights of Labor after their bosses started hiring new people the strike fell through so they had to find a new place to work.
  • Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890

    Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890
    This law forbade any resistant of commerence across state lines. Also courts ruled union strikes and boycotts were covered by the law
  • The Pullman Strike

    The Pullman Strike
    Industry workers went on strike for facing wage cuts while 12 hour shifts while working for Pullman Palace Car Company. That is where it started the workers from the American Railroad Company joined to fight the wage cuts. eventually there was a total of 250.000 people on strike.The strike ended when President Grover sent in federal troops to end it on July 6, 1894

    United Mine Workers of America in eastern Pennsylvania went on strike for higher wages, shorter workdays and recognition of their union. The strike stopped when the miners recieved 10% wage increase and 9-10 hours cut off workdays
  • Steel Strike of 1919

    Steel Strike of 1919
    United States Steel Corporation workers represented by American Federation of Labor went on strike over poor working conditions, long hours, low wages and corporate harassment regarding union involvement. The strikers got up to 350,000 strong nearly shut down half of the steel company. It resulted in an absence of steel companies for 15 years

    United States federal law that restricts the activities and power of labor unions. Defined 6 additional unfair labor practices. It was amended to protect employees' rights.

    Statute in the United States that prohibits union security agreements or agreements between labor unions. It is also where Featherbedding comes from (Hiring more workers than needed)
