    In Virginia in an area where there were more black people than white, Nat Turner, a highly educated slave, went from house to house with 70 Africans freeing slaves and killing white men. Aproximately 60 men, women, and children were killed.

    The Black Seminoles started in 1835 and started in Florida. Runaway slaves were welcome in Flaorida by the Spainish. But Presidant Andrew Jackson wanted to kill all the Free Black people, so he declared that black men were not free and sent an army down to Florida to kill them all. The Black Men ran to Oklahoma and made peace with Native Americans. But the army followed them there and tried to kill them again.     The Amistad was a slave ship that was carrying slaves from Sierra Leone to Cuba to America. This was done in seacret because the Slave Trade was outlawed in America at this point in time. On their way from Cuba to America, the slaves rised up against the crew members and killed the captain and others. With the slaves in control, the Amistad was steered toward America were court would decide the fate of the Africans.

    Creole Case
    A slave ship holding 135 slaves was heading from Britain to the American Colonies. The slaves eventally overpowered the captain and sailed to Nassau in the Bahamas. The Bahamas were controlled by Britain and Britain had outlawed slavery a long time ago. The U.S. was outraged that Great Britain freed U.S. property.

    Frederick Douglass' THE END OF ALL COMPRIMISES WITH SLAVERY paper
    As a slave, Frederick Douglass could read and taught other slaves about freedom. He fought against being beaten by his masters and was sent to prison. He escaped to New York City and started a weekly paper callled THE LIBERATOR. Eventually, he bought his freedom from his former master for $710.96. His paper, END OF ALL COMPROMISES WITH SLAVERY talked on that all men had equal rights and that they needed to stand up against people who supported it.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    The Dred Scott Decision began in 1846. Dred Scott was born a slave and sold to Dr. Emerson. Dr. Emerson treated Scott well. When Dr. Emerson was called for military duties in the North, He took Scott with him. After Dr. Emerson died, Dred Scott said that he should be free since he was in a free state. But, Dr. Emerson's wife said he was still her slave. This case went alll the way to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court sadly said that slaves could be held in Free States as long as their owners

    John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry
    John Brown raids Harpers Ferry with several followers. Harper's Ferry was an United States Armory and Arsenal. He wanted slaves to rise up against their masters and join his raid but it backfired on him and townspeople started shootin at him. He was wounded badly with a sword and was hanged on December 2.

    In the 1960's, Black people all wanted the same rights as white men. So, they would do things like Sit-ins, were black kids would sit at the front counter of an resterant untill they were served, not moving for white pepole. Marchs, were black people (and some white) would march down roads demanding equal rights. All of these were completly non-violent and would not fight back even when provoked.
