    Montesquieu publishes On the Spirit of Laws
    On the Spirit of Laws was one of the primary sources of the Constitution. He wrote it to denounce the abuses of the French monarchical system and to encourage a liberal monarch government for France
  • America declares independence

    America declares independence
    America wrote the Declaration of Independence to show that they were no longer part of Britain and they were going their seperate ways. Beforehand, the British weren't allowing the US to buy goods from anywhere except for Europe. Also, they were not allowed to make processed goods in their land or import it. They had to ship their materials to Europe and then buy it back from Europe to get rum or something from the molasses they got.

    During the Revolution, the people overthrew their monarchy and was influenced by the ideas of Enlightenment and the American Revolution. However, at the end, Napoleon Bonaparte came to power which led France to one of it's most powerful times.

    After Napoleon's defeat in Egypt, he poisoned the injured troops so he could head home faster. When he got back to France, he said that he won even though he didn't. He thought that if by the time everyone found out that he actually didn't win, he would already be the ruler of France. Also, people were happy that he "got rid of France's enemies"

    Napoleon starts conquering places left and right. He heads toward Portugal and Spain and makes the King of Portugal, King John, move toward their biggest settlement, Brazil.

    When Napoleon re-established slavery, Haiti revolted. This was the first colony to escape European rule. It was a very successful revolt.

    The day that he calls for independence is called Grito de Dolores. Although the revolt was not successful, it did succeed in bringing attention to the problems of being under Spanish rule.

    Napoleon is defeated at the Battle of Waterloo
    It had rained the night before when Napoleon had finally reached the British. But, Napoleon didn't want his horses to slip so he was waiting for the ground to dry. The Duke of Wellington from Britain noticed this and told Prussia to get whatever troops they could to the battlefield, and they defeated Napoleon.
