    Vladimir Lenin's Birth
    Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov was born on April 22, 1870 in Simbirsk, Russia. Vladimir was born to a very educated family and he was third of six children. He changed his surname to Lenin in 1901. He is also the first of his family to graduate from high school.

    Vladimir Lenin's older brother Aleksandr is executed by order or Alexander III. His brother was accused of being in a terrorist group that would kill Alexander III.Vladimir was only 17 at the time and Aleksandr's death was a turning point in Vladimirs' life because it led him to revolutionary action.

    Lenin completed his studies in Samara and he finished with top marks in his class. He worked with lower to middle class people and this experience led him to begin to hate the legal system's class bias. He moved to St. Petersburg to continue work but he also joined secret revolutionary marxist groups.

    Lenin is arrested and exiled to Serbia
    Lenin and other Marxists united various groups in the Union for the Struggle for the Liberation of the Working Class,which was meant to support workers and educate them in Marxism. In December 1895, Lenin and the other leaders of the Union are arrested. Lenin is later exiled to Siberia.

    The Russian Revolution of 1905 fails to overturn the czar.
    Lenin was frustrated with Russia's political structure and also their war with Japan. After an unintentional massacre on January 9, 1905 sets the Russian Revolution of 1905 in motion. The czar responds with limited reforms, but Lenin argues that the workers must lead Russia in a true Socialist revolution to truly transform the nation. This attempt at a revolution in 1905 failed.

    The Russian Marxist party splits into two groups
    After years of arguing between the two groups over the methods with which to bring about a Socialist revolution, the Russian Marxist party splits into two groups at a party conference in Prague. Lenin's Bolsheviks believed the workers as the true proletariat who must lead the revolution, while the Mensheviks believed the bourgeoisie should be in control.

    Lenin leads the Bolsheviks in overthrowing the Government.
    In 1917 Lenin along with the Bolsheviks were able to overthrow the current Czar and he set up his own government with the Bolsheviks.It is called the October revolution and Lenin is the leader of the new soviet state.

    Lenin is almost assasinated
    After the October revolution a civil war broke out in the Soviet Union between the new Bolshevik government and anti-soviet forces. Lenin was shot at by an anti-soviet soldier after one of his speeches but he survived and recovered. The Soviet army which is led by Leon Trotsky eventually defeat the anti-soviet forces.

    The USSR is formally established.
    The USSR is formally established by Lenin and his Bolshevik government after years of civil war within the region. Lenin has finally achieved his dream of revolutionizing Russia. But his political party is continually straying away from his vision of a socialist nation.

    Lenin completes his political "testament"
    Lenin was semi-paralyzed after the assassination attempt on him and he wrote a testament to his secretary, and finished it on January 5, 1923. The testament described Lenin's fear that his political party was destabilizing due to Trotsky and Stalin. And that the party was moving away from Lenin's original vision for the USSR.

    Vladimir Lenin's death
    On the 21st of January, 1924. Vladimir Lenin died in his Gorki home in the USSR. He had died from multiple strokes and other illnesses. Sadly despite his attempts to reverse Stalin's consolidation of power, the Soviet state continued to move farther away from Lenin's dream of Socialism after his death.
