    The Louisiana Purchase is when the United States bought 828,000 square miles of land from France. The US payed about 4 cent per acre which costed $11,250,000 USD that is equivalent to 50 million francs. This help pay a part of our debt that we owed to France from the war. Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska parts of North and South Dakota, New Mexico, Texas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Louisiana.

    Make peace with the Indians and introduce them to their "Great White Father"
    The Corps of Discovery Expedition began from St. Louis on May 1804 and ended September 180. This journey was very successful in learning the ways of the western Indians, finding great food sources, and a somewhat accurate map of the land.

    It all started with Mexico defeating Spain its mother country in 1824 becoming an independent nation. Later empresarios was an anglo,(a white American not of hispanic origin0), who was given free land if they had became a Mexican citizen, obeyed Mexican laws, and became loyal to the Catholic church. Stephen F. Austin was one of the first to establish a colony there in 1820 and by 1834 over 20,000 Americans settled there.

    a worker near Sutter's Mill found gold. Word about this land a.k.a California was full of gold was going around the country. In 1849 forty-niners, gold-seekers, went to California for their chance to strike it rich! Most of these people were young unmarried men but, 5% were women and children. Also, 2500 Chinese immigrants came to the Gold Rush in 1849 and 1853. Many of the miners had no experience and did not become rich.

    The northwest territory was owned by Russia, Spain, Great Britain, and the US. Eventually, Britain and the U.S agreed to joint occupation of Oregon. Lewis and Clark were first to go out there but soon after Americans started to follow them (Oregon stretched from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean). Missionaries were the first to travel through the South Pass to Oregon. In 1843 over 1,000 pioneers traveled there after trade exaggerations from other settlers.

    December 12, 1814 the US and Britain signed a treaty. But January 8, 1915 the battle of the War of 1812 was fought. Simply because the signing of the treaty hadn't been spread to the south allowing the battle to happen. Of course the winners of the battle was the US lead by Andrew Jackson the soon to be president.
