Pearl harbor
Pearl Harbor was an attack on the US. It was started by the Japanese to keep the US out of the war. It had the opposite affect. This brought the US into the war. Many ships were sunk but most of them were brought back into service. -
Japanese internment in US (date of Executive Order 9066)
This was the order to put all Japanese into camps to keep them contained. They also did this with other minorities. This is one of Americas atrocities of the war. -
Conventional bombing of Tokyo
This was the air raid bombings in Tokyo. The US strategically bombed certain areas to help end the war quickly. -
Doolittle Raid
This was one of the first attacks on the main land of Japan. It showed the Japan itself was venerable. This was a major victory for the US because it showed we were getting close. -
Battle of Midway
This battle between the US and Japan took place no the island of midway. This was the furthest that Japan ever expanded into the ocean and was the turning point in the battle for the pacific. -
Air raid on Nauru Island
This was an occupation that lasted three years. It was on the island of Nauru by the Japanese military. They treated the local population very harshly. -
Battle of Leyte Gulf (US invasion of the Philippines)
This battle is considered the largest navel battle of WW2. It took place near the Philippines and lasted almost 3 days. On one side was the US and Australia agains Japan. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
This was one of the worst battles of the war. There were many casualties both civilian and otherwise. Toward the end of the battle to avoid capture there was mass suicide on the Japanese side. -
400 new POW
This is when the new batch of POW came in. They brought news of bombings. They were a main source of information for the trapped POWs. -
The plan
This is when they made a plan to kill the bird. One team was gonna subdue him while the other team would throw him into the river. This plan was never completed. -
First atomic bomb drop
On this day the first of the 2 atomic bombs was dropped. It was dropped on Hiroshima killing thousands. It was a show of american power. However, it would take a second bomb to get the Japanese to surrender. -
The Goat
This is one of the Birds nasty plots. He put Louie in-charge of a goat. He said if the goat died Louie died. -
Illness
Louie woke up gravy ill. He was seeing signs of what had killed other men. To say the least he was worried. -
Cessation
The guards shouted out and assembled the prisoners. They then told them that the war was at a point of cessation. This was good news to the prisoners. -
The supplies
A plane flew over and dropped gifts. They dropped things like candy and magazine. The POW all dug in and were very enthusiastic. -
The Beam
This is when the Bird made Louie hold a beam above his head. This was a tourture that Louie had to endure. However, he was able to endure it for 37 min before the Bird attacked him. -
VJ Day
VJ Day stands for Victory over Japan day. This was the day that we declared victory over Japan and citizens in the US rejoiced.
