The Battle of Britain was a military campaign of World War 2, when the Royal Air Force defended the United Kingdom against the German Air Force attacks. The battle was because the Nazi German forces wanted to make Britain to agree to a negotiated peace settlement. -
Operation Barbarossa begins
Operation Barbarossa is a code name during WW2 for the German invasion of the Soviet Union. This was the most destructive war and a very crucial turning point. This was the largest military invasion. Europe's main purpose was to destroy the Soviet military power which included some Nazi ideological goals, as well as to make use of Russia's rich deposits of natural resources, which would be helpful to continue fighting the war against the Allies. -

The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Japanese against United States at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory. It was this attack that forced the United States to enter WW2. -
Invasion of Hong Kong
The Battle of Hong Kong, which could also be called as the Defence of Hong Kong or the Fall of Hong Kong, was one of the first battles of the Pacific War in World War 2. This battle was about Japan trying to take over Hong Kong. The Japanese attack was met with troops such as British, Canadian and Indian units. Within a week the defenders abandoned the mainland and less than two weeks, with their position on the island, the colony surrendered. -

Also known as the Battle of Dieppe, with a code name called Operation Jubilee, which was an Allied attack on the German-occupied port of Dieppe during the Second World War. Operation Jubilee was the first Canadian Army engagement in the European war, designed to test the Allies' ability to launch amphibious assaults against Hitler's "Fortress Europe." -
Battle of Stalingrad
This was a major battle of World War II, which Nazi Germany and it's allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad, in Southern Russia. This battle, the Germans were defeated by the Russians, this caused the army to be in full retreat after all the successful invasions. It's significance is that this battle marked the end of Germany's advances into eastern Europe and Russia. After the Germans lost in Stalingrad, they did not advance any farther. -
Battle of Ortona
This battle was fought between 2 battalions of elite German. As being part of the Allies, they advanced through Italy during the Second World War, Canadian forces fought one of their toughest battles of the war in a bid to capture the town of Ortona. The significance of the Battle for Ortona is that Canadian soldiers learned valauble skills during this battle and that with Ortona, they were able to push the Germans out of Italy. -
D-Day
The Normandy landings were the landing operations of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. It was code named Operation Neptune, presumably because it involved a water landing by the Allies on the beaches of Normandy, France. It is the largest military operation by sea in history, and it had great significance to the war. -

This is Victory in Europe Day. This public holiday is a celebration on May 8 to remember the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces. -

This is an atomic bombings of Japanese cities called Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which was dropped by Americans. The first bombing was called "Little Boy", which killed over 70,000 people. The next one was called "Fat Man", which killed over 100,000 people. These bombs were intended to cause Japan to surrender to the allied forces and to end the WW2. -

Victory over Japan Day. This is the day where the Empire of Japan surrendered in World War II, which ended the war. This is significant because this is a celebration of the end of war, which is when they had peace. -
Battle of the Atlantic
This battle was the longest continuous military campaign in World War II, going on from 1939 to the defeat of Germany in 1945. The Allies and the Axis Powers fought for control of the Atlantic Ocean. The Allies wanted to use the Atlantic to resupply Great Britain and the Soviet Union in their fight against Germany and Italy, while the Axis Powers wanted to stop them. It's significance are that it is the longest, largest, and most complex battle.
