Battle of Britian
This battle was fought between the Britain and German forces in air battles over United Kingdom. Germany's forces were targeting Britains bases for months but they failed to gain air control. Britain won this battle and they avoided a ground invasion from Germany. Britain showed other countries that the war could be won through air warfare. -
Invasion of the Soviet Union
This battle was between Germany's and it's allies, and the Soviet Union. Germany attacked the Soviet Union with troops that stretched from the Baltic Sea, in the north, to the Black Sea in the south. Germany took over most of the Soviet Unions lands. The German army weakened and the Soviet Union came back with a counter attack. Once Germany was able to regroup, they started attacking with full force and they eventually took over the Soviet Union's land. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan attacked the United States naval base destroying ships, planes, and killing many people. Japan used fighter planes to attack the base that was located in Hawaii. The United States could not defend themselves. After this attack the U.S. declared war on Japan. Three days later, Japanese allies, Germany and Italy, declared war on the United States. The U.S. cut off Japan's money and cargo, Japan got angry and returned with a surprise attack on Hawaii. -
Battle of Coral Sea
This was a battle between the Allied Forces and Japan. It was the first air-sea battle in WWII. Japan wanted control over the Coral Sea but they got intercepted by Allied Forces. American fighter jets flew above Japanese ships and attacked Japan with their air craft. Both sides suffered many damages but Japan did not have enough planes to continue the ground attack of Port Morseby. -
The Battle of Midway
This battle was fought between the United States and Japan. The battle was fought six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.They fought this battle in the Pacific Ocean. Japan's plan was to sink the rest of the U.S. aircraft's that had escaped Pearl Harbor's attack. American intelligence cracked the Japanese fleet code and surprised them with a counter attack. The U.S caused significant damage to Japan's fleet. This battle allowed the Allies to take an offensive position. -
Battle of Stalingrad
This battle took place between the U.S.S.R. and Germany. The Soviet Union stopped the invasion of Germany onto the Soviet Unions land. This battle marked the turning of the war to favor the allies. The Germans wanted to conquer Stalingrad because it would be important for their strategy to build a new base of operations so that they could launch further assaults on the Russian territory.
