8000 BCE

Nomadic people first begin to settle in Mesopotamia. These people eventually became the first civilizations in Mesopotamia.

Medieval

525 BCE

Dionysius Exiguus publishes the Dionysius Exiguus' Easter table. This initiated the Anno Domini era, used for the Gregorian and Julian calendars.

Greek and Roman Era

330 BCE

Naming of the city by the Emperor Constantine as the capital of the Roman Empire (as Nova Roma, later Constantinople).

Industrial Revolution

The steam engine is invented. Thomas Newcomen invents the first steam engine. It is not very useful yet, but the idea of using steam to make machines go will be important to the Industrial Revolution.

Morse Code

Apr 24, 1837

Morse develops the telegraph and Morse Code. Great Western--first ocean-going steamship.

Ford

Henry Ford mass-produces the Model T.
