    McCarthyism begins to take control of americans politics
    The rise of McCathyism began in response to the first and second red scare. McCarthyism was the accusations of many people in American poitics were secretly communist. The era ended when McCarthy accused people in the army to be communist.
  • Korean War erupts

    Korean War erupts
    On June 25,1950 North Korean soldiers invaded South Korea in an attempt to unify the two under one flag of communism. The UN then stepped in and pushed the North Koreans back to the Chinese border due to an amphibious attack. Then the Chinese stepped in and fought the UN forces with the North Koreans

    Korean war ends in an armistice
    With the involvement of Chinese forces against the UN soldiers, the front line was pushed back towrds the 38th parallel. Fighting continued with no territorial gain thus ending in a stalemate. The armistice was signed to keep both Koreas seperate at the demilitarized zone. Clashes pop up every now and then even to this day.

    Ngo Dinh Diem was installed as prime minister of South Vienam. He then begn to round p supporters of communism in the area and exiled them out. He also descriminated against budhists to whch added to his infamy.

    An armed revolt agains the former government ended with the rebels led by Fidel Castro ousted Batista.The former govenrment in charge was backed by U.S. supplies and weapons. The new rulers of Cuba then took on a more socialist form of govenrment, ultimately becoming communist.

    The day Eisenhower signed the act that extemded statehood to the then territory simce 1919. First attempt to statehood when Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole sent the request to U.S. Congress. It became a legal holiday in 1969 and is celebrated on the third Friday of August.
  • J.F.K. assassination

    J.F.K. assassination
    While in a presidential motorcade going through downtown Dallas, J>F>K> was fatally shot by a sniper. Killer of the president Lee Harvey Oswald was then arrested but then killed by jack Ruby before brought in for questioning. Kennedy was announced dead while in the emergency room, and Johnson was sworn in as acting president on the flight back to Washington.

    An act that helped prohibit desrimination of blacks and on a lesser note hispanics from votiong. It prohinbited the us eof literacy tests before voting. it also prohibited the formation of any new lae that made the voting process harder for blacks and hispanics.

    Kent State shootings
    Unarmed college students were shot at during a peaceful protest against the Cambodian Caampaign. The Ohio National Guard was called in to help contain the protest. Subsequently, the guardsmen shot into the crowd, killing 4 students and wounding 9 others.

    There was a break in of the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate complex. Nixon got involved in the scandal when he tried to cover the accident up. It was later discovered that the Nixon admnistration was tied to the break in, thus forcing Nixon to resign from presidency.
  • Vietnam War Ends

    Vietnam War Ends
    The Vietnam War that been going on since the fall of French rule over the area came to a close when U.S. troops were pulled out leaving the South Vietnamese to their fate. The Tet Offensive and the many protests back home called for the evacuation of American troops from the war that wasnt theirs. Nixn who was voted on the platform of Vietnamization called for the immediate exfil of troops to much of the American population happiness, thus leaving South Vietnam to fend for themselves.
  • Iraq invade Kuwait

    Iraq invade Kuwait
    Iraq accused Kuwait of stealing Iraqi petroleum and invaded Kuwait. Within 2 days Kuwait was overrun and announced a part of Iraq as a province. The invasion directly lead to the involvement of U.S. troops and the consequent Gulf War.
