28 people are hospitalized and only 1 death resulted. The contamination was from fresh onions servered from a resturant in Northwoods mall.

Salmonellosis all over the US
Started from Hillfarm Dairy in Melrose Park, Ilinois. It caused a confirmed number of 16,284 ill possibly 200,000 ill. There is a confirmed death of 2 people, but there might have been more as 12 deaths. Contamination came from contaminated Milk.
Didn't end till around April 8, 1985

E. Coli from Jack in the Box
four children died and about 700 others ill around the Seattle area, and part of Pacific Northwest. Source of contamination comes from undercooked hamburgers.
Reports started around November 1992, but wasn't confirmed till January 12, 1993.

Source was unpasteurized apple jusice. 65 people in several states fell ill, most from West and in Canada. Only one person, a child died. SOURCE: Food Safety News article in 2009 that talked about this outbreak. -
Listeriosis outbreak all over US
caused 14 or 21 deaths, 4 of them being miscarriages or stilbirths. Outbreak occured from hot dogs and cold cuts.

Found in the dinking water at the Washington County Fair. Over 700 people ill and 2 died.

More than 660 people fell ill and 4 died. Outbreak came from green onions served at Chi-Chi's restaurants in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Reports started around Sept 14 and went on till November.

Found in peanut butter made from Peanut Corporation of America. 22,500 fell ill, and 9 died.

Lasted from July till October. Caused by cantaloupes. 30 people died. 146 fell ill

Salmonella Outbreak
Most of it occured in California and Arizona. Only 3 deaths so far. Over 558 people ill. Outbreak comes from cucumbers from Mexico and distributed by Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce. Lasted until September.
