Estates General Meeting
Louis XVI decided to raise taxes for all Frenchmen including aristocrats. Because the aristocrats blocked this idea he called the Estates General Meeting which met for the first time in 170 years. -
Storming the Bastille
A large mob of people stormed into the Invalides Fortress where they stole 30,000 muskets. After they stole those they marched to Bastille which represented the kings authority. They attacked it and released many prisoners. This is relevant because it probably worried the French Government a lot because the citizens are willing to do anything for change. -
The Great Fear
The name basically says it all. After people revulted it struck great fear into everyone in Paris. Peasents demanded cheaper bread and also attacked many manor's and aristocratic property. This is relevant because it shows how much fear people lived in during that time. -
The August Decrees
The August Decrees were nineteen decrees made in August 1789 by the National Constituent Assembly during the French Revolution. This is relevant because after these were passed there were many uprisings and wealthy aristocrats were burned. -
Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen
This got rid of Priviledges traditionally enjoyed by High Ranking Citizens. Because of all the angry citizens they made the 17 articles which becamse the basis of the new French constitution. -
Constituton of 1791
This constitution was created by the National Assembly during the French Revolution. This created a system of indirect voting. -
Women's March on Versailles
Basically there was a giant bread shortage and prices were very high. A large mob of 7,000 women marched on Versailles with weapons. -
Civil Constitution of the Clergy
This assembly confiscared church properties and forbid the practices of religious vows. All salaries of the clergy were greatly reduced. -
Execution of Louis XVI
Louis was on trial for treason and wes eventually executed. Other countried were also worried because they might have to take similar actions. Not only was Louis put to death but Marie Antoinette was also. -
Reign of Terror, September Massacres
A lot of execution took place during this period. Over 40,000 to be exact because anyone who said something counter-revolutionary would end up at the guillotine. Even Nobles and Clergy were killed during this time.
