  • Royal Marriage

    King Louis XVI married Mary Antoinette
  • Crop Failures

    There was a bad crop failure in the 1780's, this resulted in the price of certain goods, like bread, to double. Many people started to face starvation.
  • Estates General

    The Estates General gathered under King Louis because he wanted to raise taxes since France was in debt. Normally the third estate( pheasents) got outvoted.
  • National Assembly

    The third estate created the National Assembly to enact laws and new reforms for the people of France.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    The third estate was locked out of the Estates General so they all met at a tennis court and created the Tennis Court Oath. This created a new constitution.
  • Storming of Bastile

    The king was outraged and sent troops to surround Versailles. The people of Paris took action and stormed Bastile looking for weapons. This was the first symbolic act of the revolution
  • Great Fear

    The Great Fear was a wave of senseless panic throughout France. The Peasants terrorized the Nobles and would break into the Manors and destroy their contracts to the land.
  • Legislative Assembly

    Created laws and handled wars. It also the king executive power over the laws.
  • War Begins in France

    The Legistlative Assembly declared war on Austria and Prussia (since they were in favor of putting King Louis back into power). They ended up losnig to Prussia so the Legislative Assembly called for a new government.
  • Robespierre Takes Control

    Robespierre became leader of France creating a government called the Committee of Public Safety. He changes the calendar to 12 months and executes over 1000 enemies. His ruling was called the Reign of terror.
  • The Reign of Terror Ends

    Finally the Reign over terror ends when Robespierre dies by guillotine.
  • Napoleon Seizes Power

    The Directory appointed Napoleon to lead a French army against the forces of Austria and Sardinia. He won many battles and became a hero in France.
  • Coup d'Etat

    The Directory lost control so Napoleon seizes political power over France.
  • Battle of Trafalgar

    Napoleon's first major loss was the Battle of Trafalgar. He lost in a navel defeat by the British.
  • Waterloo

    Napoleon's greatest loss was in Waterloo when Napoleon attacked the British and the Prussians. Napoleon was forced to flee and ended up being exiled to St. Helenas were he lived for 6 years then died due to stomach cancer.
