Thomas Jefferson picks Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to lead an expedition into this new territory. William Clark was a mapmaker and an outdoorsman. Meriwether Lewis was a captain in the US Army. Together these two men would help expand the new territory by creating a map showing the most direct route to the Pacific Ocean and gathered information about plants and animals. -
