    The Amateur Hockey Association of Canada is formed. The assembly of this league marks the beginning of professional hockey. Link text

  • Origins of the Stanley Cup

    Origins of the Stanley Cup
    Frederick Arthur, Lord Stanley of Preston and Governor-General of Canada, donates a trophy to the AHAC. This cup is best known as the Stanley Cup, which although it has undergone many changes throughout its history, is still awarded to the champion team today. Link text

    Players signed after June 1st of that year were required to wear hockey helmets. The last player to not wear a helmet was Craig McTavish who retired in 1997. This helps to prevent injuries in players. Link text
