    The derecho and tornado outbreak of April 2011 was a large-scale damaging wind and tornado outbreak that affected the South and Eastern parts of the United States. The system produced a large windstorm. Power outages were extensive across the area and tree damage was severe. Several people were killed and injured by falling trees and branches as the storm passed through.

    The Oikos University shooting occurred on April 2, 2012, when a gunman shot at people inside Oikos University, a Korean Christian college in Oakland, California, United States. Within a few hours, the number of reported fatalities reached seven. 43-year-old One L. Goh, a former student at the school, was taken into custody and identified as the suspect in the shootings.
  • The death of Margaret Thatcher

    Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher died Monday morning of a stroke, according to her spokesman. She was 87. Thatcher was the U.K.'s first and, so far, only female prime minister. and the first to lead her party to three electoral victories in a row.

  • Deltopia

    Police in Southern California arrested about 100 people over the weekend after violence erupted at Deltopia, an annual spring break party. A crowd started throwing rocks and bottles at police and smashed windows after a campus officer at the University of California, Santa Barbara, arrested someone who hit him in the face with a backpack filled with liquor bottles. At least 44 people wound up in hospitals.

    Furious 7 shattered the April box office record by taking in $143.6 million in its opening weekend. The previous record was $95 million for the debut of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The haul was the best launch for any film in the Fast and Furious franchise, and the ninth biggest for any movie.

  • Mossack Fonseca file leak

    It’s being called the biggest leak in journalism history. On Sunday, Journalists revealed 11.5 million secret files from the database of the world’s fourth-largest offshore law firm, the Panama-based company Mossack Fonseca. The files show how the law firm set up a global network of shell companies for heads of state, politicians, CEOs and celebrities to store their money offshore to avoid taxes and oversight.
