In the 1810's to the 1820's, dresses became more structured and started being made with stronger/ firmer fabrics. The dresses were often soft, suttle colours such as baby pink and cream. The sleeves also became biggers with more ruffles and trim.

In the 1830's the should fullness that was previously in the past years, now dropped to the elbow and the sleves became quite large. The neck lines became very wide and formed a V shape. This year also produced 19th centurys first version of an hourglass silhouette.

This was the most dramatic change in styles because the sleves lost their fullness and started becoming fitted. The neck lines were high for the day and low for the night. Women wanted more of a silhouette requiring more petticoats to get their desired figure.
