Under the command of Oliver Perry, an American Fleet defeats the British fleet at the Battle of Lake Erie. The cut if the British supply lines forcing the to abandon Fort Detroit. -
State Government Relocates
The Ohio State government relocated to Columbus It was originally in Chillicothe for 7 years, then it moved to Zanesville. After being in Zanesville for 2 years it moved back to Chillicothe. Finally it made its way to Columbus which is still is the state capital today. -
William Henry Harrison
William Henry Harrison is elected the 9th president from the whig party. He was the first Ohio president even though he was only president for a month. Harrison died from pneumonia. -
The Railroad Meets Akron
During this time the most important invention was the train. This connected Akron to the rest of the country. The effects it left is limitless. -
Lincoln Elected President
In a four man race Lincoln the republican candidate won. This victory forever changed the country and Ohio. Ohio fought with Lincoln and the Union versus the rebellious south. -
Civil War
This is a war fought between the north and the south with a key thing being slavery. Ohio sued with the north and fought to defeat the rebellious south. Ohio played a huge role in the war being where the supreme commander was from. -
Supreme Commander Grant
Ulysess S Grant is promoted to supreme commander. He is from Ohio and played a key role in winning the war for the north. This appointment came straight from Lincoln himself. -
Civil War Ends
Robert E Lee the commander of the Northern Virginia army surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Courthouse Virginia. This event ended the war after four long years of fighting. It is estimated that about 620,000 American men died fighting in this war. -
Lincoln Assassinated
Lincoln while at a theater is shot by a man of the name John Wilkes Booth. Booth a southern supporter disliked Lincoln and his ideas for the country. Booth was killed 12 days later when union soldiers tracked him to Virginia. -
President Grant
Former union commander from Ohio runs for President as the republican nominee. He wins the election becoming the second Ohio President -
Buchtel College
John Buchtel funds Buchtel College in Akron, Ohio. Buchtel College later turns into the University of Akron which still stands today -
Goodrich comes to Akron
B.F. Goodrich relocates his rubber company from New York to Akron. This event is key to Akron becoming the rubber capital. -

This is a war fought between the United States and Spain over the independence of Cuba. -
Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company
Goodyear was founded in east Akron, Ohio by Frank Seiberling. This company would grow to be the biggest rubber company in the world. -
McKinley out Teddy Roosevelt in
William McKinley an Ohio President is assassinated during his second term. VP Theodore Roosevelt comes in an aggressive Progressive President. -
Man takes Flight
The Wright brothers from Ohio makes the worlds first flight. -
Wilson Wins
Wilson defeats both Taft and Roosevelt but won less then the majority vote. -

World War 1 breaks out in Europe. The United States declares neutrality and does not join the war. -

The United States finally gave up on neutrality when Germany reinstated unresticted submarine warfare. That along with the Zimmerman telegraph got the United States off the sideline and into the battle. -

World War 1 ends in armistice. at the 11th hour of the 11th day during the 11th month. -

Due to overspeculation during the roaring twenties the stock market collapsed. This collapse launched the single worst economic shape the country's history. Thus beginning the Great Depression. -

FDR is elected President in 1932. He saved the country from the Great depression and kept us together during World War 2. -

The United States drops the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima killing hundreds of thousands in seconds. The followed this up by dropping another on Nagaski three days later -
World War 2 Ends
Japan finally surrenders ending World War 2 which has been the most destructing war ever in the history of the world.
