On St Vitus's Day, which was the day the Archduke and his wife came to Bosnia, a Bosnian Serb and his accomplice. decided to celebrate Slavic nationalism by killing the Archduke and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg. The Austria-Hungary government saw the assassination as an attack on the country.
