Physical development

    1st Year

    Child is normally able to walk and has grown about 10 inches and gained 15 pounds in the first year.
  • Period: to

    2nd Year

    Child becomes increasingly better at activities that require coordination and is able to do activities like jump in one place and run in a forward direction.

    3rd Year

    Child may be able to do things that require more balance and special movement like throwing a ball or riding a tricycle.

    4th Year

    Child may start to speak some words and phrases.

    5th Year

    Child can clim, skip, hop and can be more independent on things such as dressing themselves.

    6th Year

    Child can start to play sports and run, also time for developing imagination.

    More independent, usually kinder to younger children or pets.

    Puberty for some girls, but child may learn to read and write at this age.

    Huge changes in appearance as some children may be going through puberty at this time.

    Rapid ability in mental skills, much better at talking about thoughts and feelings.
