    Facist powers officially join together by signing the Tripartite Pact. It was created to keep America out of the war. Italy, Germany, and Japan. The Axis Powers. These countries were to be the enemies of Ameria if they join the war.

    Presidential Election
    Roosevelt decided to run again for president for a third term against Wendell Willkie. They both promised to keep the nation out of war and were for the policy of aiding Britian during the war. Since both were so similar, Americans voted for the one they know best. Roosevelt won with 55% of the votes.
  • Lend-Lease Act

    Lend-Lease Act
    Britain had no more cash to spend for their arsenal. So Rooselvelt created the lend-lease policy. Under this plan, the president would lend or lease arms and other supplies to “any country whose defense was vital to the United States.” The act was created to prevent the war from coming to America. Americans favored it but Isolationist hated it.

    Hitler broke the agreement he made with Stalin and Atacked the soviet Union. Roselvelt decided to aid the Soviet Union also so that Germany wouldn't advance any futher.
  • The First Shoot

    The First Shoot
    Germans U-boats fired on the US destroyer Greer in the Atlantic on September 4, 1941. Roosevelt ordered navy commanders to respond. Roosevelt ordered the navy to shoot the German submarines on sight. Germany sunk the Pink Star, an American merchant, a U-boat torpedoed the U.S. destroyer Kearny, and 11 lives were lost. German U-boats sank the U.S. destroyer Reuben James, killing more than 100 sailors.

    Signing of the Atlantic Charter
    A meeting took place between Winston Churchill and F.D.R. aboard the USS Augusta to discuss the war in Europe and possible US commitment. The meeting resulted in the signing of the Atlantic Charter which was a joint decleration of war aims. Those gaols included collective security, disarmament, self-determination, economic cooperation, and freedom of the seas.

    On November 5, 1941, Tojo ordered the Japanese navy to prepare for an attack on the United States. U.S. military had learned that Japan was preparing for a strike. Then on December6, 1941, Roosevelt learned from a message that Japan was denying all american peace proposals. On December 7 Peral Harbor was attacked. Congress approved the decleration of war on Japan. 3 days later, German and Italy declared war on the U.S..
