Freedom 7
Alan Shepard became the first American in space. He flew on a Mercury spacecraft. There was just enough room for one person.He named his capsule Freedom 7. It launched on a Redstone rocket.

Friendship 7
John Glenn was a former NASA astronaut. He was part of the first group of astronauts that the NASA selected. In 1962, he became the first American to orbit Earth. when he left NASA, he became a U.S. senator. He became the oldest person to fly in space. He orbited the earth 3 times.

Apollo 7
The crew of Apollo 7 begin in a 10 day mission to study the new spacecraft. Apollo 7 was the only manned apollo mission launched on Saturn B 1 rocket and from pad 34 at the kennedy space center.

Ranger 7 transmits the firdt close range images of the moon. Ranger 7 was to recieve a lunar impact trajectory and to transmit high resolution photographs.

Luna 9 became the first spacecraft to land soft on the moon. The probe could support the weight of a lander and that an object would not sink into a loose layer of dust.

Soyuz 4&5
Soyuz 4&5 perform the first soviet spacecraft docking. This all happened on its 18th orbit. When the automatic system had brought the ships 99m of one another the Soyuz 4 was complete.
