    Spunik 1 siccessfilly lainched ad entered Earth's orbit. This began the space age. The successful launch shocked the world, giving the former Soviet Union the distinction of putting the first human/ man made product into space.

  • Sputnik 2 (s.u)

    Spunik 2 was the second space craft launched into the Earth's orbit When Lakia (the first dog in space )was launched into space they had passenger cameras to keep an eye on her.Spunik 2 allowed her enough room to lie down or stand.Lakia was fitted with a harness and a bag to collect waste.

    Explorer one was the first american sattilite launched by the U.S.
    One of the science instrument on Explorer 1 was a cosmic ray detector designed to measure the radiation environment in Earth orbits.

  • Spunik 3 (s.u)

    Spunik 3 was an automatic scientific space labratory.This spacecraft provided data from the atmosphere. The spacecraft remained in orbit until April 6, 1960. The outer radiation belts from Earth were detected during the flight.

    Congress passed a legislation to establish NASA. NASA can now detect weather and storms from multiple satilites in space.Nasa was the response to the soviet union after its launch of the first sattilite.

    Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space making a 108 minute orbital flight.The spacecraft consisted of a small cabin covered with ablative material. There were three small portholes and external radio antennas. Radios were a life support system in space.

    The main objective of this mission was to determen humans capabillity in space. There were a few basic flight problems encluding an automatic excape system and vehicle control incrution.

    J.F.K was assasanted .He was marked one of the best presidents making NASA. J.F.K was very important to the space race because he had the idea of making NASA. He also made a big speech about nasa imforming the whole country about it.

  • Friendship 7 (u.s)

    John Glenn was launced into space to become the first american to orbit the earth. This was a 9 day mission. This flight lasted 4 hours and 55 minutes.This was a very succsusful flight.

  • Luna 15 (s.u)

    Luna 15 tried to land on the moon and pick up some samples of moon rocks and sand. They tried to land where the U.S land, Instead they crashed into the moons surface.

  • Apollo 11

    The primary objective of this mission was to send a crew of 3 people to land on the moon and end the space race. Neil Armstrong was on this mission and walked on the moon.
    This amazing achievment ended the Cold War with the U.S on top!
